Itshak Hotltz Biography

Itshak Hotltz was born in 1925 in Skierniewice, Poland In 1935, Holtz's family immigrated to Jerusalem, where they settled in the Geulah neighborhood, near Meah Sheraim. In 1945, Itshak Holtz enrolled in The Art Students League and studied painting and drawing under such renowned personalities as Robert Brackman and Rorbert Philipp.

Itshak Holtz's art reveals the spiritual behind the commonplace. Jewish ritual and lifecycle events, the tailor, the rabbi, and the scribe are brought to life by his gifted brushwork. The glowing colors of his palette capture the charm of Jerusalem's winding alleyways and sundrenched streets and illuminate the modest interiors of neighborhood synagogues and shops. Holtz's warm depictions of the people and places he holds so dear has garnered an international following.
